Jorge Martin “The anniversary of the death of Comandante Hugo Chavez and events in Venezuela and Crimea”

hovFLatin Waves Host Sylvia Richardson speaks with Jorge Martin, international secretary of Hands Off Venezuela on the anniversary of the death of Comandante Hugo Chavez, the current attempts by US backed elite in Venezuela to instigate a coup. The discursive power of the mass media internationally who are owned and controlled by a few monopoly groups share a selective memory of the facts that poverty is not a natural condition but rather impoverishment is a process of exploitation and domination of the working class. Jorge point out that in the race against hunger Venezuela has led and proved that a revolution that makes worker’s autonomy a reality is a bad example for the Capitalist world wide he says “They have chosen their side in this battle. We the people have also chosen ours”.

He also speaks about the hypocrisy of the main stream media in how they portray the conflict in Crimea compared to how they are covering events in Venezuela.

Bruce Gagnon speaks about growing tension in the Ukraine

He was a co-founder of the Global Network when it was created in 1992.Between 1983–1998 Bruce was the State Coordinator of the Florida Coalition for Peace & Justice and has worked on space issues for 30 years. In 1987 he organized the largest peace protest in Florida history when over 5,000 people marched on Cape Canaveral in opposition to the first flight test of the Trident II nuclear missile.Bruce speaks to Stuart Richardson about growing tension in what is becoming a dangerous standoff between Russia in the Crimea region of Ukraine which has the potential to become a much bigger conflict. Bruce gives us some history and speaks of Nato’s bigger agenda in the region,
Of course the Obama administration is saying that Russia is violating international law by moving more troops into Crimea. Obama is threatening Russia with “severe consequences”. And now you can be sure that NATO is indeed preparing ‘contingency plans’.The open question is how will the American people react to all of this? They rightly opposed Obama’s desired cruise missile attack on Syria. Will they be as wise about planting the cancerous NATO flag on Crimean soil?Now is the time for all peaceful people to speak out. Before the real shooting starts.

Robin Hahnel on global economic crisis, the sustainability of struggles against austerity

LoveFRobin Hahnel is Professor of Economics at Portland State University. He was a professor at American University for many years and has traveled extensively advising on economic matters all over the world. He is best known for his work on participatory economics with Z Magazine editor Michael Albert.

Hahnel is a radical economist and political activist. Politically he considers himself a product of the New Left and is sympathetic to libertarian socialism. He has been active in many social movements and organizations for forty years.

Candidate Xiomara Castro, has rejected the official election results and denounced the process as fraudulent. Castro is the wife of former president Manuel Zelaya, who was ousted in a U.S.-backed military coup in 2009. Hondurans have denounced the “stolen elections” as another chapter of the 2009 military coup. Graham Russel speaks of the wave of terror leading to the election, the links to mining interest and government militarization of the streets and the ongoing struggle for Democracy.
